 Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11522 | I bought the very first video game console in my whole life today: an Atari VCS. It's not a complete system though, but just the joystick. At least it looks like that. In fact, this joystick has ten games built in! After plugging it into a TV, it lets you choose between Adventure, Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Circus Atari, Gravitar, Missile Command, Pong, Volleyball and Yar's Revenge. The design is exactly like the original joysticks used for the VCS. The games are great of course! Gravitar is my favourite so far, followed closely by Volleyball. If I don't appear here anymore, you know what I'm busy with  ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Is it just me or is that game insanely difficult? I never played Breakout but it's basically the same thing as Arkanoid, right? Must be fun to be able to play those classics on the TV screen. One thing though: the idea of Pong with one joystick seems kind of dumb, I don't suppose there's a 2 player mode? Yes it is, but it would be more correct to say Arkanoid is basically the same thing as Breakout, because Breakout was first released in about 1976, Arkanoid came much later - circa 1986. I cant imagine Breakout on joystick being any fun at all. |

Centipede is a lot more complex than Space Invaders, that is why I like it better, too. SI is 'purer' though, it is closer to being the epitome of simple fun. Circus Atari is difficult no matter what controller you use!, be it the orignaly designed for paddles or joystick/joypad/keyboard. Its a shit game if you ask me.  Member Retired Gumby Posts: 743 | Those joysticks with built in games have been available around here for a couple years now. 10 is the lower end one, there's one that has 20 or 30 games in. I saw both available in a local truck stop (it's rather scary how much entertainment based stuff that's marketed toward truck drivers, to think that some guy is probably playing a playstation or watching video tapes while driving a 20 ton rig down the road......). (For those of you in europe, truck/rig refers to a lorry.)
